weather window well used

The original plan to go Allalin passing through Hohlaubgrat was not possible because in Saas-Tal not all cable cars are operating yet. So, the tour was replaced with Weissmies. Also, the weather forecast was not really so good. We knew, it needs a bit luck to have a nice weather window. On my way to Saas-Tal from Bern, I encounter a heavy rain and was hoping it would be better in Valais. By entering the Rohne-Valley the sky started to open up und in Saas-Grund it had a blue sky. We took the 1st gondola to Hohsaas. On the entrance of the glacier, we put our gear on and made 3 groups with the snow hard pressed and still frozen. We made fast progress and it had comfortable condition. Soon we passed the seracs and moved in between the ice on one place and definitively one of the highlights on this tour. 200 meters below the peak we had a very short break – enough to eat somethings small – and very soon we stood on the peak. It had a wonderful view with sea of clouds and peaks lingering with clouds. But for a moment we got reminded of the weather when we were in a deep fog for a moment but that vanished after immediately. So, we had to make our way back down faster than we like and yes, we had all the time sun and after 300 meters down on our descend snow got soft. Still we were underway on a quite fast pace and soon we exit the glacier. Then the sky started to get dark. When we had a drink in the restaurant Hohsaas, even some raindrops started, and we know we had really our weather window and a wonderful morning.

Thanks to the tour leader Matteo, the SFs and all the participants to make such a beautiful morning.
